Sharktoberfest II October 2nd- 30th, Special Events 5th, 14th & the 23rd
Celebrate the Sharks with Sea Stewards and other shark lovers at the Farallones, at the California Academy of Sciences, with the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary and on the San Francisco Bay. Support local shark conservation efforts and learn about sharks.
Saturday October 2, 7:30- 4:00 PM White Sharks and Whales of the Farallones- kicking off Sharktoberfest will be a hosted tour looking at whales, birds, and maybe a shark! With Sea Stewards Director David McGuire as onboard Naturalist.
Tuesday October 5th, Party begins at 6:00 PM SharktoberBEERfest at the Iron Springs Brewery, Fairfax in Marin10 % of Proceeds go to our non profit. Come for the beer, stay for the sharks. Live music.
Thursday October 14th 6:00 PM SHARKLIFE! Night life with Sharks at the California Academy of Sciences, Party with the Sharks, Live Music Fish. Experience and enjoy the beauty of the ocean life we are trying to protect at the Steinhart Aquarium. New shark film preview and shark talk with renowned shark expert.
Saturday October 23rd 10:00 AM SharktoberKidfest. Kids celebration with guest celebrtity artists. Paint a giant sanctuary mural and shark workshops for shark lovers of all ages. A benefit for the shark monitoring program. Located at the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary Education Center at Crissy Field, San Francisco 10 Am- 4 PM.
Saturday October 23rd, 6:30 PM Cruising for Sharks. Join us on the Bay on the Angel Island Ferry for a cruise with naturalists and a shark celebrity. Rock out and dance to the tunes of My Peoples. Sustainable seafood and Sierra Nevada Ale. Departs Tiburon at 6:30 PM, return 10 PM.
Blue Ocean Film Festival, August 26th- 28th
Let Sharks Live. Ban the Fins. Join the movement. Sea Stewards will be tabling at the Blue Ocean Film Festival and will be screening two of our film productions.
Join Sea Stewards at the Steinbeck Lobby, Monterey Convention Center, Thursday, August 26 –Sunday, August 28 ; 9:00am– 4:00pm where we will have materials on shark conservation, shark fin soup, a video on finning and the petition to ban shark fins.
FILM SCREENINGS
Friday Night at 7 PM we will be attending the screening and Q&A of Patagonia's 180 South, where David was Captain and videographer aboard the SeaBear, sailing from Mexico to Cocos Isalnd, teh Galapagos and Rapa Nui. Check our blog for a comment on the trip and the fining going on in those marine reserves.
Saturday at 10:30 Am we will be screening Protecting America's Marine National Monuments with Dr. Sylvia Earle, a film on the new Marine Monuments of the Pacific.

Sea Stewards at the largest gathering of Asian and Pacific Islanders at the San Francisco Aloha Festival at the Presidio Fairgrounds, San Francisco August 7th and 8th.
Thousands hung out, hung loose and learned about sharks. Sharks are close to the heart and deep in the culture of island peoples.

Following the event we hosted a fundraiser at the Wipeout Bar and Grill withDVD signings, a discussion with the filmmakers and benefit for the Save Japan Dolphins effort.

Sustainability Discussion at Aquarium of the Bay: 12:15pm Feb 6, 2010 Following the shark film program, Sea Stewards Director David McGuire is facilitating a panel discussion on ocean sustainability, from fishing to consumption.
The discussion will be held in the Farallons Room at the Aquarium of the Bay and will feature panelists including:

World Premiere at the San Francisco Ocean Film Festival Featuring sharks inhabiting the San Francisco Bay, including Sevengill sharks and the tagging and tracking programs of the Aquarium of the Bay Foundation and the U.C. Davis Biotelemetry Laboratory. This documentary features a look at local sharks, their populations & movements, and the threats and solutions for managing and protecting sharks in the San Francisco Bay- and beyond.
