We are celebrating the return of the white sharks to our sanctuary after their annual migration, and all sharks in the San Francisco Bay and world ocean. Join us celebrating and motivating our community to save sharks!  What is Sharktober?  Sharks need our help. Learn about the history of the Bay Area sharks and shark outreach events here.

October 29 “Sharks of the Bay” Sharktoberfest with Aquarium of the Bay and Bay Area Blue Drinks.  NEW Venue.  Bay Theater, Pier 39 A talk on local sharks, shark tagging and lessons learned about local sharks with AOB Michael Grassman and Shark Steward’s David McGuire. reception 6:00 PM with drink and light fare. November 1  Swim for Sharks- a fund raiser and awareness swim to support our shark sanctuaries and marine protected areas initiative.

November 7, Bay Area Science Fair  10:00 AM AT&T  Park. Join us with other science educators and experience a shark’s eye view of the Bay, foraging, avoiding predators and navigating other hazards to survive. Free!

September 17  Success Stories on California Marine Life with the Aquarium of the Bay. Talk on sharks, Maine Protected Areas and sustainability at the Film and Lecture Series | The Bay Institute. 6:00 PM- 9:00 PM

NEW TRIPS ADDED NOVEMBER 14th and new trip added on the 21st!  Sharktober Farallon Island Excursions,  (others may be added) Join us on a specialized naturalist expedition on the vessel Silver Fox into the Gulf of the Farallones for whales, wildlife seabirds- and maybe a shark!  These trips include expert discussions, data collection and oceanographic measurements for a full field experience.  Not your normal whale watch trip – although we are seeing our cetacean friends in the Sanctuary. Sign up here.

October 1, 6:00- 10:00PM Sharktoberfest Shark Life at the California Academy of Sciences, drinks, dance, sharks!  Surviving the Shark talk with a Shark Survivor and Shark Stewards Director and Academy researcher David McGuire, talks by Academy researcher Dr. Dave Ebert and Curator of Ichthyology Dr. Luiz Rocha, Beer Garden, sharks, sharks and more sharks!

October 13 Bay Currents talk   A Shark’s-Eye View of the Bay. Sponsored by 5 Creeks Albany  The Bay’s murky waters are home to 11 varied species of shark. Broadnosed sevengill sharks cruise boldly; ray-like shovelnose guitarfish lurk in ambush; soupfin sharks depend on warm shallows as a safe nursery. In a talk with vivid video, explore the lives of these fascinating and ancient creatures and how we can and should protect them. St. Albans Parish Hall, 1501 Washington (at Curtis), Albany. Free

unnamed-1 Saturday October 17th Sharktoberfest with the Sanctuary.  Join shark specialists and educators celebrating and learning about sharks in Shark Steward’s 6th annual Sharktoberfest education event.  Shark games, shark science and shark fun for the whole family.  Shark printing, face painting and other activities for the entire family.  Ocean animal costume contest with prizes to the best creature!  MAP Free.  11AM- 4 PM.

October 20, 2015 See us at the Brower Youth Awards  recognizing young environmental leaders. Reserve your seats for the Awards Ceremony and purchase tickets to our pre-ceremony.  Opening Reception is held in the elegant Green Room at the historic Herbst Theater in San Francisco. Time: 5:30 PM – 7:15 PM Free Awards Ceremony ). Seating is general admission (no reserved seats) in the Herbst Theatre,(7:30 – 9:00pm.

October 21  Sharktoberfest Film Night with the San Francisco International Ocean Film Festival.   Special shark guests, raffle and fun.  Xavier Auditorium, Fromm Hall University of San Francisco.   Reception at 6:00 PM, Films begin 6:30, Discussion to follow afterwards. Free to USF students, staff and faculty. 6:00 PM- 9:00PM

October 22 Swimming With Sharks with Marathon Swimmer Kim Chambers, A talk and short film at Patagonia San Francisco, North Point 6:30 PM- 830 PM Reception, Libations, Raffle, Talk and Film. Free
